5 Signs You Need Professional Hot Tub Repair

If you’ve purchased a high-quality hot tub and are religious with your maintenance schedule, you’re unlikely to have any significant issues with your spa for some time. As it ages, however, problems can occasionally crop up. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at five of the most common signs that you need professional hot tub repair or service.

1. Emits an Odor

Most spas emit a faint chemical smell courtesy of the cleaning chemicals used to sanitize the water, but there should never be an unpleasant odor. If your water has an odor, it could be a sign that the water isn’t circulating properly or is contaminated. It could also mean your filter, drains or pump are clogged. No matter what the problem, it’s important to call in a certified hot tub technician to assess the situation. An expert will be able to diagnose and fix the problem for you so you can get back to enjoying your spa.

2. Green or Murky Water

If your hot tub has turned a slimy shade of green or, even worse, has gone dark, you’ll know beyond a shadow of a doubt there’s a problem. Green water is a good indicator there’s an algae problem while dark water usually means contamination. If the issue isn’t extreme, you’ll be able to correct it by balancing, sanitizing and shocking your water.

If the water doesn’t clear up, you’ll know something more serious is at play such as corrosion inside the pipes. In this case, you’ll need to call your spa dealership to schedule a repair. Be sure to stay out of your spa until your spa expert gives you the go-ahead.

3. Cool Water

Are you freezing when you soak in your spa? If your water is cool or is of inconsistent temperature, it can certainly spoil your spa time. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for this issue. If your water isn’t heating properly, it likely means there’s an issue with the control panel and a professional repair will be needed.

4. Leaks

If your water level is diminished for no apparent reason, you may have a leak. It can be very difficult to figure out where the leak is. There is always some spillage when you get in and out of the spa, so looking for water around it isn’t always helpful. If the leak is very small, or is coming from your hot tub’s inner workings, you may never find it. If you believe your spa is leaking, you’ll need to call the experts in. A professional will be able to find the source of the problem and have you back in your hot tub in no time.

5. Faulty Jets

It’s always disappointing to anticipate a wonderful jet massage only to discover your jets are on the fritz. Whether they lack power or aren’t working at all, you may need an expert’s touch to rectify the situation.

First, check to see if your water level is high enough. If it’s too low, that can impact jet function. Also check to be sure the hot tub’s drain is covered and no water is escaping. If neither of those are an issue, check to see if your jets are clogged. You may be able to deal with a minor clog on your own. If the jets are clogged severely or there’s an issue with your spa’s pump, valves or control panel, you’ll need to schedule a professional repair.
